A 16th century pocket watch found by Alonzo Batilla

A pocket watch is is a watch made to be carried in a pocket, generally with an attached chain to allow them to be secured to clothing, preventing them from being dropped. Though quite popular after their creation, they were eventually overshadowed by the wristwatch.

History

Among the many treasures collected by pirate Alonzo Batilla figured a pocket watch originally belonging to François l'Olonnais.[1]

During her career as an Assassin, Aveline de Grandpré purchased a number of these watches from smugglers and amassed a vast collection. For this, she was gifted the Dueling Pistol.[2]

Arno Dorian's pocket watch

On 27 December 1776, French Assassin Charles Dorian gave his pocket watch to his son, Arno, to calm him. Arno kept it as a heirloom, a reminder of his father, who died later that same day. Despite its sentimental value, he once wagered it in a game, only to regret it afterward and steal it back.[3] Over the years, Arno repeatedly lost the watch due to misfortune, yet he always found a way to recover it.[4]

By 2014, Arno's pocket watch had ended up in the archives of Abstergo Entertainment. A Templar agent was granted permission to examine the watch using Eagle Vision, allowing them to detect fingerprints and traces of Arno's tears on its surface—a feat that impressed Grand Master Alan Rikkin.[5]
