A Templar of the American Rite, Sweeny was a member of the infamous "Tweed Ring", a group of corrupt official among Tammany Hall which was lead by Grand Master William M. Tweed. He was New York County District Attorney and later City Chamberlain and Park Commissioner under Mayor A. Oakey Hall.[1]
