"You can hunt those who bear false witness against you. They traded dignity for coin. Their loss would not be mourned."
Paola speaking to Ezio about officials.[src]

Officials were minor assassination targets, who often claimed to have witnessed the crimes of Assassins, and testified against them.

Should Ezio Auditore da Firenze commit a crime or assassination in their city, officials, who were normally respected members of the society, began to falsely declare that they had personally witnessed him committing the crimes.

Ezio would seek them out to assassinate them, and silence their testimonies. However, officials were often paranoid, and would flee as soon as they caught sight of the Assassin; unless he was blending with nearby civilians.

Trivia

  • Officials, along with Heralds, are involved in the Social Stealth system. Killing one will lower your notoriety by 75%.
  • Officials appear as a black and white eye on your mini-map.
  • Officials always carry around 80 to 89 florins, which can be looted from their bodies after killing them.
  • In Assassin's Creed: Revelations, officials are accompanied by two Byzantines and will fight back if they notice you.
