Nassau is the capital, largest city and commercial city of the Bahamas.

In 1715, during the Golden Age of Piracy, Nassau became the capital of the self-appointed Pirate Republic, which operated under a revolutionary form of government, and was commonly visited by pirates, including the Assassin Edward Kenway, and the Republic's three de facto leaders; Benjamin Hornigold, James Kidd and Edward Thatch.

In 1718, the newly appointed and arrived Governor of Nassau, Woodes Rogers, quickly asserted his control over the island, effectively imprisoning all pirates, whether they accepted the King's pardon or not, and dissolving the young Pirate Republic.

The city is also notable for it to suffer from famine, mostly sickness. As a result Edward and Thatch set out to find medicine, in order to help the city get on it's feet.
