The Nabataeans were an ancient Arab people who lived mainly in northern Arabia and the southern part of the Levant. By the 5th century AD, the Nabataeans converted to Christianity and the last remaining of their people were seen as peasants by the Later Roman Era.[1]

Sinai rebellion against Roman occupation
In the late 1st century BCE, the Nabataeans living in Sinai formed a rebellion against the Roman occupation, led by the Order of the Ancients leader General Gaius Julius Rufio. Following their leader Gamilat, the Nabataeans sought to push out the Romans.[2] However, Gamilat willingly created situations where the rebels initiated attacks against Roman soldiers and retreated to local villages, whose defenseless inhabitants suffered the soldiers' unrestrained aggression. He then opportunistically recruited into his growing army the lucky few who survived and saw the chance to take up arms as a way to attain revenge.[3]
In 38 BCE, the Egyptian Hidden One Tahira set up a bureau in Sinai and aided the Nabataeans. However, two Hidden Ones fell to one of these Roman attacks and thus she messaged Hidden Ones' co-founder and friend Bayek to aid her.[4] Upon his arrival, Bayek met with Tahira and Gamilat, and agreed to help the Nabataeans be rid their Roman oppressors. Although Rufio was still in Rome, his three lieutenants Tacito, Ptahmose, and Ampelius still oversaw his work.[5]
In Klysma Nome, Nabataean inhabitants and children were sold into slavery. When the Hidden One Osorkon went to investigate, he uncovered that a local Nabataean woman Shaqilat was rescuing the enslaved. However, Roman soldiers soon caught and interrogated Osorkon for information on his brotherhood. Fortunately, he was rescued by Bayek, whom he told about Shaqilat. After finding her, Bayek aided her when they came under attack from Roman soldiers over her actions.
