Madam Lee was a powerful and wealthy Qing merchant who owned a trading enterprise in Portuguese Macau in the 1720s.
Through her trading network, she was aware of both the Assassins and the Templars, and their ongoing conflict, and was willing to work with either groups in order to safeguard and benefit her own business.
Biography
Unlike other merchants at the time who preferred to deal with luxuries, Madam Lee monopolized Macau's salt and sugar trading to become someone who had the city under her feet, as navigator John Young put it. In February 1725, she purchased the logbook of the late Dutch East India Company navigator Hendrik, attracting the attention of both the Assassin Edward Kenway[1] and the Templar Shimazu Saito[2] who had their ninja burn down her main warehouse.[3]
Later, she moved into the Mandarin's House along with a number of guards. Kenway infiltrated this residence looking for the logbook, though Madam Lee had been expecting him and invited him to sit down for tea at gunpoint, having learned of both his identity and his affiliation to the Assassins. The group's attention, however, was drawn back into the mansion's courtyard, where a group of ninjas had arrived and attacked some of the guards.[2]
