Keba was a son of Menehet, a priest of the Temple of Sekhmet in Yamu during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.
Biography
Keba grew up in the mid-1st century BCE with his siblings Soris, Hasina, and Nailah in Yamu where their father, Mehemet, was a respected priest in the Temple of Sekhmet. They led a carefree childhood and enjoyed the visits of Mehemet's friend, the Medjay of Siwa, Bayek, who they affectionately called Uncle Bayek.[1]
In 48 BCE, on one such visit when Bayek stopped by on his way to Alexandria to reunite with his wife, Aya, Keba and his siblings stalked the Medjay in the temple despite being expected to stay with their mother. Although Bayek noticed their presence, he feigned ignorance, playing along with their fun, and allowed them to sneak up on him from behind. They then spontaneously engaged in a game of hide-and-seek. Keba explored the backyard for a hiding spot but accidentally trapped himself in a well. Fortunately for him, his misadventure did not last long; Bayek quickly found him, climbed down into the well, then broke the wooden boards sealing a tunnel, providing him an exit. After the Medjay found all the children, the game ended, and they all returned home.[1]
Later in response to Keba's earlier mishap, Bayek, in bidding farewell before his departure, advised that he be careful of venturing into places he did not know how to leave.[2]
