Isidore Mercator, also called Isidorus[1] and I.M.,[2] was the pseudonym of the mysterious and brilliant scholar who led the Bellatores Dei, a secret group of religious zealots.[3]
Around the time of the siege of Paris, Mercator ordered the excavation of ruins at Champlieu, Gisacum, and Diodurum. The Hidden One Abbo Cernuus eliminated the men sent to those places in an effort to keep the Lutetia bureau safe.[4] Isidore had his spies track down the unknown assailant and assigned a captain to seek him out at the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, though he, too, was eliminated.[2]
During the same period, Isidore tasked Bishop Engelwin with aligning the will of King Charles the Fat with that of the Bellatores Dei, though Engelwin did not manage to do so thanks to the influence Queen Richardis had over her husband.
