The Equestrian Statue of Henry IV is a monument in Paris, France.
History
Located on the Île de la Cité at the crossing of Pont Neuf, the bronze statue was constructed in dedication to Henry IV of France. The stallion was cast in Florence and shipped to Paris in 1614 to await the cast of the king. The stallion was riderless for 21 years, and so was referred to by Parisians as simply "the bronze horse" during that time.[1]
During the French Revolution, the site of the by-then completed statue was used as a meeting point and a recruiting office for volunteers to fight Prussia.[1]
