Dogan bin Arslan (died 860s) was an Abbasid captain who worked under the warlord Wasif Al Turki alongside Turkic commanders Jasoor ibn Basil and Nadir ibn Havid in Sharqiyah, all of whom were members of the Order of the Ancients. As their ally, Dogan worked against the Zanj rebels led by Ali ibn Muhammad, aiding in the capture and execution of the rebels.
Biography
In the early 860s, Dogan operated in Jarjaraya, a town southeast of Baghdad, where he was placed in charge of the capture and execution of local Zanj rebels, in an attempt to draw out the rebellion's leader Ali ibn Muhammad. This was done on the orders of Jasoor ibn Basil and Nadir ibn Havid, two Turkic commanders and members of the Order of the Ancients, who themselves answered to Wasif Al Turki.[1]
Wishing to find the culprit behind the rebels' executions, Ali sought out the aid of the Alamut Hidden Ones, and Basim Ibn Ishaq accompanied him to Jarjaraya to conduct an investigation. As anyone caught conspiring with the rebels risked meeting the same fate, few civilians were willing to provide Basim with information, but the Hidden One nonetheless managed to learn about a farm outside the town where the rebels were taken and executed.[1]
After freeing the rebels held at the farm, and also learning Dogan's name from a note pickpocketed from one of his informants, Basim joined Ali and the rebels in an attack on Dogan's villa. During the assault, Dogan and all of his men were killed, and Basim recovered a note from the captain's body revealing he was expected to attend a meeting with Jasoor and Nadir at the Officers' Club.[1]
Trivia
- Dogan's in-game character model is that of a Turkic Army captain dressed in cyan robes despite his image in the Investigation section showed him in red instead. His given name means "falcon" or "hawk" in Turkish,[2] while his surname Arslan variously means "fearless", "warrior", or even "lion" in Turkic.[3]
