In Greek mythology, Agamemnon was a legendary king of Mycenae and the brother of King Menelaus of Sparta.
Biography
In most Greek mythology traditions, Agamemnon was best known for being the commander of the united Greek forces during the Trojan War, a war fought against Troy after Menelaus' consort Helen was kidnapped by the Trojan prince Paris.[1]
Upon returning from the war, Agamemnon was killed by his wife's lover Aegisthus at his homecoming banquet.[1]
Legacy and influence
After his death, a tomb dedicated to him was built in Argolis, within the region regarded as his 'palace'.[1]
Agamemnon is featured in Homer's works The Iliad and The Odyssey. The authors Euripides and Sophokles also wrote of him. [citation needed]
