The Black Room is a safe mode inside the Animus, accessed through a back door in its programming. When Desmond was put back inside the Animus, he used this room to access his own personal lost memories. By accessing these memories, Desmond hoped to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious.
This new Area was introduced to add a puzzle-orienting gameplay for players and to challenge them in a way they haven't done before through the Animus. This mode is used as a stepping stone to your paving of Desmond's path through the Animus Hardware.
The secret to waking up from Desmond's coma is located here, in a point in time where the path of Ezio, Altaïr and Desmond cross, like a hub.
