The Black Room is a safe mode inside the Animus, accessed through a back door in the machine's programming. When Desmond was put back inside the Animus, he used this room to access his own personal lost memories. By accessing these memories, Desmond hoped to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious.
The Black Room is supposedly behind the traditional white loading screen of the Animus.
