Murasaki was a Japanese girl and the granddaughter of Yoshiharu who lived in the Iga Province during the late Sengoku period.

Biography

After the Tenshō Iga War, Murasaki lost her entire family except for her grandfather Yoshiharu. As a result, their home was taken over by Oda troops while she and her grandfather wandered around Iga to find a new place to live.[1]

In 1582, Murasaki and Yoshiharu found themselves at an abandoned cabin and rested there. However, they were attacked by a stranger. Fortunately, they were saved by their fellow Igan shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe, who fought and killed their attacker.[2][3]

Tired of traveling, Murasaki feigned her injuries, making sure her granfather stayed while Naoe left to find help. Soon, Naoe brought her "auntie" Matsu to treat the girl's injuries[2] while Naoe went to fetch maggots. However, Murasaki soon admitted that she pretended to be injured so she and her grandfather would not have to leave the cabin.[4]

While Matsu cooked her famous misoshiru and Naoe recovered Yoshiharu's lanterns from his former manor, Yoshiharu finally felt content, especially with Matsu's company. Noticing this, Murasaki implored her grandfather to stay, as she had not seen him smile in a long time. With Naoe and Matsu's insistence, Yoshiharu ultimately agreed to stay for a season. Matsu then promised to train Murasaki as a shinobi while she and Yoshiharu agreed to help her around their new home.[1]
