Zhang Zhi's father (d. 1259) was a member of the Chinese Brotherhood of Assassins and a commander in the army of the Song Dynasty. A seasoned Assassin, he was trained by the Mentor Kang and in turn trained his daughter Zhang Zhi to also become an Assassin.
In 1259, he died fighting off the Mongol army besieging the Daioyu Fortress. During one of the assault he dueled Bayan, a mongol officer, on the fortress walls but was killed.
