Rothenburg was an Assassin informant in Abstergo Industries who informed the Assassins about the Templars' activities.
Rothenburg's identity remains unknown and Gavin Banks continues to trust the informant, as they have never asked for anything in return and if they had, he would've terminated the operation.[1]

Owen Meyers suspected that Rothenburg was in fact Cole, an Abstergo field agent who freed Sebastian Monroe from captivity at the Aerie and helped Monroe, Owen, and Grace Collins sneak aboard transportation to Mongolia.
