The Ra's Al-Af'a (English: Head of the Snake)[1] was the title of the Order of the Ancients' leader when the group was based in Baghdad during the rule of the Abbasid Caliphate. The Ra's Al-Af'a's duty was to oversee the Order's control over the city and to utilize their efforts to discover any ancient artifacts left behind by the Isu.[2] In the 860s, the last known Ra's Al-Af'a was the late Caliph Al-Mutawakkil's favorite concubine Qabiha, whose Order fell to the Hidden Ones based in Alamut while Qabiha herself was killed by the Master Assassin Roshan.[3]

The title of Ra's Al-Afa corresponds to the title of Grand Maegester of the Order in Great Britain. Both titles also prelude the title Grand Master, used to denote the leader of a Templar Rite.
