Peter Barr Sweeny (October 9, 1825 – August 30, 1911), was an American politician and lawyer who was a member of the Tammany Hall, the Democratic Party political machine that played a major role in the politics of 19th century New York City and State.
A Templar of the American Rite, Sweeny was a member of the infamous "Tweed Ring", a group of corrupt official among Tammany Hall which was lead by Grand Master William M. Tweed. He was New York County District Attorney and later City Chamberlain and Park Commissioner under Mayor A. Oakey Hall.
In 1863, the members of the ring met in Tweed's house in order to plan the New York draft riots, which they hope would eventually help them to put New York and the country under the control of their Order.
