Laurens Prins (1630s – 1717), often anglicized as Lawrence Prince, was a Dutch buccaneer and an officer under Captain Henry Morgan. Following Morgan's death, Laurens became an associate of the Templar Order in the Caribbean.
In 1717, word reached Laurens that the Templars were seeking a man named Bartholomew Roberts, who happened to be working for Laurens at the time. He approached the Templars, offering to trade Roberts for a sizable ransom.
During the planned exchange, Laurens noticed that Laureano de Torres y Ayala, the Templar Grand Master and hopeful purchaser of Roberts, had been followed by the pirate Edward Kenway, and called off the deal.
Not long after, Edward Kenway and an Assassin known as James Kidd infiltrated Laurens' manor in Kingston, Jamaica and assassinated him.
Final words
- Laurens: Why hang over me like a leering crow? To see an old man suffer?
- Edward: You've caused no small portion of suffering yourself, Mr. Prins, retribution, I suppose.
- Laurens: You absurd cutthroats and your precious philosophy, you live in the world, but you cannot make it move.
- Edward: You mistake my motive, old man, I'm only after a bit of coin...
- Laurens: As was I, lad. As was I.
