Lanark is a town in southern Scotland known for, among other things, the Scottish counter-offensive against the English during the First War of Scottish Independence.
History
In 1297, Assassin William Wallace engineered a plan to both "ignite the fire of revolt throughout all Scotland" and to slow down the Templars after the Stone of Scone. Wallace chose Lanark as the setting for his counter-offensive due to the high level of tension between the Scottish population and the English soldiers stationed both at the city's garrison and a nearby camp.[1] With the assassinations of the Sheriff of Lanark and an English commander,[2] revolt spread throughout the city.[3]
