La Dama Negra

La Dama Negra (English: The Black Lady) was one of five legendary ships encountered by the pirate Edward Kenway in the Caribbean during the early 18th century. She was found sailing south of the fort of Serranilla in the Caribbean Sea.[1]

History

La Dama Negra was one of the strongest warships in the Spanish Navy. She relied heavily on her double mortars in battle while trying to remain out of range of enemy ships until they were almost sunk, following which she would then deliver devastating broadside cannon volleys.[1]

La Dama Negra was immune to broadside fire due to having heavily armored sides, though her only major weak spot was her stern, to which attacks did significant damage. She was also susceptible to attacks directed at her bow, sails, and deck, making her vulnerable to being rammed from the front and back or from mortar fire. Kenway and the Jackdaw eventually found and sank La Dama Negra, ending its career.[1]

Behind the scenes

La Dama Negra is the only Man O' War in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag that does not show the usual yellow circles when using her mortars. This feature would later be reused in Assassin's Creed: Rogue for other high-level Men O' War like the Gerfaut, the Storm Fortress, and the Cauldron.

Although La Dama Negra was heavily armored, she was also extremely fast for a ship of her size, easily outmaneuvering smaller vessels like the Jackdaw. This allowed her to maintain her distance from enemy ships if they got too close.
