Klysma Quarry

The Klysma Quarry, or simply Klysma, was a village and quarry located in the Klysma Nome, in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. During the 1st century BCE, the quarry was overseen by the Roman legate Tacito, a lieutenant of the Order of the Ancients member Gaius Julius Rufio. The Hidden Ones also maintained a bureau in the village, led by Tahira.

History

In 38 BCE, the Hidden One Mentor Bayek arrived in Klysma after receiving an urgent letter from Tahira. Through Senu's vision, Bayek was able to locate an entrance to the Hidden One bureau, meeting with Tahira and the Nabatean rebel leader Gamilat inside. The Hidden Ones proposed to eliminate Rufio's lieutenants in Sinai, including Tacito, to draw the Roman general to the peninsula.

Heading to the quarry, Bayek was informed by Tahira of Tacito's control over the site, where he executed captured Nabatean rebels as a message and warning to his workers, to prevent them from rebelling against the Romans. After infiltraiting Tacito's camp, Bayek assassinated the Order member and freed his prisoners with Tahira's help, initiating a rebellion in the quarry that soon extended to the entire Sinai.

After eliminating all of Rufio's lieutenants, Bayek returned to the Hidden One bureau in Klysma to discuss with Tahira how to deal with the Roman general. However, the meeting was interrupted by an attack by Roman soldiers, who destroyed the bureau and captured Bayek, Tahira and another Hidden One, Kashta. With the loss of their bureau in Klysma, the Hidden Ones would later establish a new one near Arsinoe.

Trivia

• Klysma was located on the future site of the southern entrance to the Suez Canal, near the modern town bearing the canal's name.
