Biography
During the 15th century, Hassan worked as a corrupt merchant, denouncing his competitors as heretics to the Inquisition. He would then sell the victims' seized properties and donate a portion of the profits to Grand Inquisitor Tomás de Torquemada.[1]
This influx of money, far more than a regular merchant could make, soon caught the Templars' attention and they sent their agent Ojeda to investigate. Hassan met with Ojeda in a Dominican chapter house in Murcia to discuss his continued dealings.[1] In 1489, the Spanish Assassins discovered the merchant's correspondence with Ojeda,[2] tracked him down in the city and assassinated him, thus striking a blow to the Inquisition's financial state.[1]
