"She looks like a ghost ship! Aye, risen from the dead to sink us!"
―The Jackdaw's crew upon spotting HMS Prince.[src]
HMS Prince

HMS Prince was one of five legendary ships encountered by the pirate Edward Kenway in the Caribbean, during the early 18th century.

A Royal Navy warship, HMS Prince was engaged by Edward Kenway's Jackdaw south of Saint-Domingue in the midst of a ghostly fog. The fog, along with the ship's black and tattered sails, gave her the appearance of a ghost ship; a naturally superstitious lot, sailors were terrified at the likeness and the resemblance even frightened the crew of the Jackdaw. In battle, she utilized mortars and attempted to conceal itself within the fog. Eventually, HMS Prince was sunk by the Jackdaw, and Kenway claimed the 20000 reales worth of gold aboard the ship.

Trivia

  • The Prince's tattered black sails, overall design, and the constant fog surrounding the ship closely resembles the Black Pearl from the 2003 Disney film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
  • Out of all legendary ships in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the HMS Prince's model was the only one not re-used for the legendary ships in Assassin's Creed: Rogue.
  • Historically, there are about three ships with the name HMS Prince in the 18th century where several were renamed like HMS Royal William, HMS Princess, HMS Princess Royal etc. So it is unclear if any one of those four is the HMS Prince in the game.
