Ermeline (born c. 1592) was the adoptive daughter of Catherine and the older sister to Margaux. Both sisters were raised in the Landes region of France, but while Margaux flourished in the simple life they led, Ermeline dreamt of settling in a town. In 1609, her mother was accused of witchcraft and taken to Bayonne, where she was burned alive as part of the Labourd witch-hunt of 1609. The Templar responsible, Pierre de Lancre, captured Ermeline as a hostage while Margaux managed to flee.[1]
