Egidio was a gladiator trainer working for the lanista Thanasis in Cyrenaica during the 1st century BCE.

Biography

In 47 BCE, Egidio was on his way to Cyrene with Thanasis' two best gladiators, Wamukota and Kosey, when bandits attacked them. Egidio fled, leaving the gladiators to fend for themselves.[1]

When he reached Thanasis, the lanista was enraged by the apparent loss of his gladiators. As he was yelling at Egidio, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa, who was passing by, interrupted them. Thanasis and Egidio explained what had happened, and Bayek offered to save the gladiators.[1]

It turned out that Kosey, one of the gladiators, had faked the abduction in order to cut loose from Thanasis, and live with his family. When Bayek returned with these news, Thanasis decided to drag Kosey back by force, if necessary. Egidio begged Bayek help Kosey, and he agreed.[1]
