Al-Mi'dhana Al-'Ateeqa

The Al-Mi'dhana Al-'Ateeqa was a small mosque in Baghdad, located in the Sharqiyah sub-district of Karkh.

History

In the 860s, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq came across a crowd of children surrounding the mosque, looking up to a young boy standing near the edge of a tower's platform. Heading up to investigate, Basim spoke to the boy named Hytham, who idolized the Hidden Ones after they had avenged his mother, and sought to impress and hopefully join them. Revealing that he had climbed up the tower to perform the Hidden Ones' traditional dive known as the Leap of Faith, Hytham struggled with the move as he had never seen it performed in front of him.[1]

Basim volunteered to demonstrate the Leap to Hytham and dived into a cart of haystack below, inspiring Hytham to do the same. After getting out of the cart unharmed, Hytham realized that Basim was one of the Hidden Ones he revered and asked to become his pupil. Basim did not see himself as a teacher, but Hytham praised him as a leader by example, causing the Hidden One to tell the boy to seek him out once he was older.[1]
