The Black Room is a safe mode inside the Animus, accessed through a back door in its programming. When Desmond Miles was placed back inside the Animus, he used this room to access his own personal lost memories. By accessing these memories, Desmond hoped to reintegrate the splintered layers of his subconscious and to wake up from his coma.
Unlike its polar opposite, the White Room loading screen (which is above it), the Black Room introduced a puzzle-oriented gameplay for players. This mode was used as a stepping stone for Desmond paving a path through the Animus' hardware.
The secret to Desmond waking up from his coma was located here, in a point in time where the paths of Altair Ibn La-Ahad, Ezio Auditore Da Firenze and Desmond coincided, similar to a hub.
