The Benjamin was a schooner owned and operated by the pirate Benjamin Hornigold during the early 18th century.
In 1718, Hornigold's Benjamin and Edward Thatch's Queen Anne's Revenge attacked a British Man O' War in order to obtain medicines for the settlement at Nassau. During the engagement the Benjamin was severely damaged and forced to withdraw.
One year later, the newly Templar-affiliated Hornigold tracked Edward Kenway in an attempt to locate the Observatory. Though she managed to lure Kenway into an ambush, Kenway's Jackdaw sank the attacking Royal Navy vessels and severely damaged the Benjamin. Lost in the fog and taking on water, the schooner ran aground on the Santanillas islands and Hornigold was eventually assassinated by his former protégé.

- During the memory "This Old Cove", Mary Read departed the Great Inagua on a vessel identical to the Benjamin.
- After the memory with Hornigold's assassination, the Benjamin will oddly disappear from the island if the player returns in free roam.
- The Benjamin is the only schooner with a Captain's Cabin, which is similar to that of the Morrigan. Also it is the only full-cannoned schooner that could be fought.
- There is a glitch where the Benjamin didn't disappear at all after Hornigold's assassination though it could disappear once Edward fast-traveled in other locations. Once Edward boarded the Jackdaw, the 'nation icon' of the Benjamin are those of the Pirates despite being a Royal Navy ship earlier in the mission, marking it as an ally. If Edward managed to 'sink' the Benjamin, it could still do the sinking animation but would still remain aground and if Edward went to the ship again, the flames would not affect him.
- It is the only level 20 schooner in the game.
