A smoke decoy bomb with fuse casing

A smoke decoy bomb is a form of diversionary explosive device that emits thick smoke upon ignition and is meant to fool onlookers into believing a fire had started nearby.

History[edit | edit source]

In the early 1500s, the Master Assassin Piri Reis taught the Italian Assassins' Mentor Ezio Auditore how to craft and use smoke decoy bombs, as they could be made using any shell and gunpowder type combined with saltpeter. The Ottoman Brotherhood had found them to be useful for luring guards away from their posts to investigate non-existent fires, but their silent nature meant only those who saw the smoke were distracted.[1]
