Cape Bonavista is a cove on the western shore of Cuba, located in the Caribbean.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1715, a naval battle between a pirate ship, the Jacobite, and a Royal Navy frigate, HMS Intrigue, occurred within reach of the cape. Both ships were destroyed during the conflict, leaving only two survivors: the pirate Edward Kenway and the Assassin Duncan Walpole.[1]
After finding themselves on the cape, Walpole tried to convince Edward to take him to Havana. When Edward attempted to haggle the price of passage, Walpole tried to shoot him before fleeing into the jungle. Following a lengthy chase, Edward caught up with Walpole, and killed him after a brief duel. He then searched the man's belongings, finding his correspondence with Cuban governor Laureano de Torres y Ayala, and took his robes, deciding to impersonate Walpole and collect the reward he had been promised by Torres.[1]
Soon after, Edward spied the merchant schooner, the Revenge, being commandeered by British soldiers. Edward eliminated the soldiers and rescued the ship's owner, Stede Bonnet, securing his means of departure from the bay.[1]
