Boston is a city in the United States and the capital and most populous city of the state of Massachusetts. During the American Revolutionary War, Boston was an important location to both the American and British armies and was frequently visited by the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton.
History[edit | edit source]
British colony[edit | edit source]
The Sage Thom Kavanagh was born and raised in Boston. At the age of fourteen, he was apprenticed to the master carpenter Jonathan Davenport, though after only five years of training, he felt his skill had progressed sufficiently and decided to put it to good use. Thus, in 1671, Thom bid farewell to his parents and left Boston, never to return.[1]
Around 1709, Rhona Dinsmore sought refuge in Boston after having fled from her distressing marriage. She spent six months in the city before eventually moving to Jamaica.[2]
During the early 18th century, Boston was one of the New World's busiest and wealthiest ports. The pirate Edward Kenway, through his fleet, sold tobacco to sailors and harbourmasters,[3] and resupplied the city's taverns during a wine shortage.[4]
French and Indian War[edit | edit source]
In July 1754, the Templar Haytham Kenway arrived in Boston to locate a Precursor site, and recruited Charles Lee, William Johnson, Thomas Hickey, Benjamin Church, and John Pitcairn to aid him in his quest. During their search, the Templars stayed at the Green Dragon Tavern.[5]
With Lee's help, Haytham recovered Johnson's research of the nearby lands and their native people stolen by mercenaries,[6] saved Church following his capture by corrupt soldiers working for Silas Thatcher,[7] and confronted his former comrade, General Edward Braddock, to get him to release Pitcairn from his service.[8] Afterwards, Haytham decided to win the trust of the Kanien'kehá:ka to locate the Precursor site, and began by assassinating Silas and freeing the natives he had enslaved at Southgate Fort.[9]
During his time in Boston, Haytham also made the acquaintance of Benjamin Franklin when he encountered him on the street by chance.[5] The two would engage in several conversations over the course of Haytham's stay in the city, and the Templar even helped Franklin to recover several lost pages from his Poor Richard's Almanack.[10]
In July 1755, after finding the Precursor site with the help of Kaniehtí:io, Haytham returned to the Green Dragon Tavern and formally inducted Lee into the Templar Order.[11]
Boston Massacre[edit | edit source]
On 5 March 1770, Haytham and Kaniehtí:io's son Ratonhnhaké:ton traveled to Boston with his Mentor Achilles Davenport to buy supplies for their homestead. During the trip, Achilles chose "Connor" to be the boy's alias, in order to allow him to move more freely throughout the colonies.[12]
After Connor purchased the supplies, a protest began outside the Old State House. Connor spotted his father and was ordered by Achilles to follow his accomplice onto the rooftop. Connor stopped the man from firing his gun, but on the opposite roof, Charles Lee fired a shot, prompting the British soldiers to fire on the crowd. Haytham spotted Connor and pointed him out to a grenadier, forcing Connor to flee.[12]
Samuel Adams later found Connor and, at Achilles' request, helped the boy escape the city. He advised him to tear down his wanted posters,[13] and showed him how to bribe town criers and printers,[14] before taking him through the Freemasons' tunnels to a harbor.[15]
American Revolution[edit | edit source]
In 1773, Connor returned to Boston to find William Johnson, as the Templar was seeking to purchase the land where Connor's village of Kanatahséton was located. Samuel Adams and William Molineux informed him of the tea taxes Johnson was exploiting to gain the money for the purchase,[16] so Connor destroyed Johnson's smuggled tea before participating in the Boston Tea Party, where he helped in the dumping of multiple crates of tea into the Boston Harbor.[17]
During his time in Boston, Connor also reduced the Templars' influence in the city, killing Johnson's tax collectors,[18] defeating the criminal gangs who were extorting the citizenry,[19] and ending the Templars' forced conscription of civilians into the British Army.[20] The Assassin did so with the help of Stephane Chapheau, Duncan Little, and Clipper Wilkinson, whom he subsequently recruited into the Brotherhood and trained as his apprentices.[10]

Modern times[edit | edit source]
After recovering a power source for the Grand Temple from New York City, Desmond and William Miles, Shaun Hastings, and Rebecca Crane had dinner at the Green Dragon Tavern in Boston on 17 November 2012.[26]
In 2020, Shaun drove Layla Hassan to Boston to board a ship in the harbor. From there, it would take her to Hordaland, Norway, to slow down the Yggdrasil device that had been keeping the global aurora on ever since it prevented the Second Disaster in 2012.[27]
Alternate timeline[edit | edit source]
In an alternate reality projected by an Apple of Eden, Ratonhnhaké:ton was imprisoned in Boston following his capture by the Bluecoats of King Washington.[28] With Kanen'tó:kon's help, he managed to escape and join up with Samuel Adams, who was leading an underground rebellion movement in the city.[29] After nearly killing and reluctantly freeing Benjamin Franklin from Washington's thrall,[30] the trio laid their plans for assassinating the tyrant.[31]
Although Israel Putnam uncovered the group's plans and lured Adams and Kanen'tó:kon into an ambush, killing the former and capturing the latter,[31] Ratonhnhaké:ton managed to save his friend and kill Putnam. Afterwards, Ratonhnhaké:ton, Kanen'tó:kon, and Franklin fought their way to the Aquila, which was docked in the Boston Harbor, and from there they set sail to New York.[32]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Boston's sewers in Assassin's Creed III are anachronistic, as the city did not have a sewer system in the 18th century.[33] Boston's first sewer system was built between 1877 and 1884.[34]
