Utbech was a small settlement of stilt huts constructed between Walden and Ravensburg in the marshes of central Grantebridgescire. It was manned by Anglo-Saxon soldiers loyal to the ealdorman and Order of the Ancients member Wigmund. Leofgifu, another member of the Order, was also based in Utbech along with her mercenaries.

History[edit | edit source]

In 873, Wigmund instructed the garrison at Utbech not to attack a longship painted yellow, as it belonged to their Viking agent Galinn, who betrayed his jarlskona Soma and the Great Summer Army under her command by granting the Saxons access to Grantebridge to drive out the Vikings. Grantebridge was soon retaken by the Vikings and Eivor Varinsdottir, one of Soma's allies who visited Utbech to help find the traitor after discovering Wigmund's note to the soldiers.[1] Around the same time, Eivor also tracked down and eliminate the Order member Leofgifu on behalf of the Hidden One Hytham.[2]
