The raiders were a group of criminals known for ransacking the catacombs of Saint-Denis during the French Revolution. They were led by Captain Philippe Rose, who employed them to search for an Isu temple underneath the city and retrieve the Head of Saint Denis,[1] intending to deliver it to Napoleon Bonaparte and, later, to "Lady Eve".[2]
Though cowardly, raiders could be dangerous if confronted in groups and would often throw rocks to hurt or disorientate foes. However, if one managed to kill the leader, all raiders who witnessed the death would immediately lose courage and flee.[3]
During his efforts to prevent Rose from accessing the Saint-Denis Temple, Arno Dorian encountered a number of raiders, typically prevailing over them with ease.[3] After killing Rose and recovering the Head of Saint-Denis, Arno used its illusionary powers to scare away any remaining raiders who had accompanied the captain. While most were later arrested by the National Guard,[2] some remained active in Saint-Denis, becoming a nuisance for the city's populace.[3]
