WikiLeaks is a non-profit organization founded in 2006, publishing previously secret government, corporate, and religious documents.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

On 28 November 2010, the same day of the United States diplomatic cables leak on WikiLeaks, Abstergo Industries' CEO Alan Rikkin sent his security analyst Caroline Grey an email informing her of the organization's damaging potential and wanting her to ensure that their own network was secure within 8 hours. Grey replied confirming that Abstergo's cybersecurity was sufficient, as their firewalls had recently deterred Erudito's attempted entry. She then inquired whether the American press' distraction by the cables leak would provide sufficient cover for the Templars to manipulate the debates about the federal tax cuts and the estate tax, only for Alan to tersely reply not to "waste [his] time with unnecessary questions".[2]

In early December, Shaun Hastings, a junior professor teaching a course that included the 1605 Gunpowder Plot, uploaded a letter to WikiLeaks under the pseudonym "GuyFawkes" that contained several confidential documents on Abstergo's inner workings, namely, several of Abstergo's purposefully secret divisions, the identities of heads of confidential programs, and further links between the company and several dangerous experiments. On 9 December, Rikkin became aware of the leaks and instructed Grey to capture Hastings.[3] Although Hastings was briefly held in custody, the Assassin Rebecca Crane arranged for his rescue and recruitment the next day.[4] Shaun later recalled his WikiLeaks activity and his rescue to Desmond Miles two years later.[5]
