The Western Market was one of two markets in Chang'an, China during the Tang dynasty. Placed at the "beginning" of the Silk Road's numerous trade routes, the market was frequented by merchants that came from Central Asia and even as far as the Middle East.[1]
In 754, during that year's Flower Banquet, the Hidden One Li E strolled through the marked after successfully assassinating a group of thugs partially responsible for a massacre at Duling village. While there, he witnessed the arrival of a procession of armored horsemen accompanying General An Lushan, who had been summoned by Emperor Xuanzong.[2]
