Sourcless Template[edit source]

Hey Cello,

Would you think it better to replace 1 with a more, neater and less bulky (IMO) 2

I honestly think that the current sourcless template is waaay to bulky, sourcing is just as important as article stubs, so why does one have to be huge while the other is a small reminder to an editor?

Plus, the template looks horrible on articles, look at the 3 article, it doesn't look that good with two huge badges on the top of it, so if one was small it would be much, much more neater. I've asked around, both War and Sima Yi think my version should be in place of the other, what do you think? :D The Thief 13:30, September 10, 2010 (UTC)

For some reason, my email account flaged your message oO Knock yourself out, Thief ;D

I think that notice needs takin down also again i say this(4th time)the featured media needs changing its driving me insane...er i know nearly every detail of those pics.

AdminAuditor(e)Talk 21:42, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Well, War_Clown was in charge of featured articles and when the Ducato and I consulted him, he understood his new job briefly, but didn't understand the part about changing the featured article and pictures weekly/monthly. We did explain it to him though, maybe you should inquire at his talkpage. Although, I think he is partially absent. Still give it a try, :D. The Thief 01:29, September 21, 2010 (UTC)

An Old Skin...[edit source]

Hey there, Cello! How's life? Anyways, I want to know your opinion regarding the possibility of replacing the current skin with this one (made by ol' JoePlay). Since Brotherhood will once again feature the Animus 1.0 (that, and we're in the Modern Age), I thought this would better fit the wiki. Here's some other user's opinion regarding said subject. So, what say you? --WarClownWanna Talk? 11:05, September 29, 2010 (UTC)

Looks good, but... isn't Wikia thinking about changing all wikis to Oasis (the new look) and removing Monaco (the old skin) completely? =/ Then any change now would be pointless =S -- D. Cello 20:35, September 29, 2010 (UTC)
I thought they were gonna make the new look optional....If they aren't, then why don't we just request for a new skin, based on the new one? The theme of the skin is of course, still Animus 1.0....--WarClownWanna Talk? 10:21, September 30, 2010 (UTC)

Implementing the New Promotion Concept[edit source]

Cello, I'm sure you remember the new concept I've been working on. I think it's time to implement it, but I don't know how. How do you add it to the tabs on this page? --WarClownWanna Talk? 02:14, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Italian Translation[edit source]

Hi D.Cello; I hope everything it's fine. With the upcoming release of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (once again settled in my homeland) I was wondering if there will be any need of an "italian translator". I'll be happy to contribute translating (free time allowing XD) everything that might help this nice wikia to become (but maybe it's already) the greatest resource of the Assassin's Creed media. - Gelb123

I'm not sure I got what you mean, mate... the game is already in english oO clarify, please -- D. Cello 20:55, October 3, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe he wants to make an Italian version of this Wikia? BTW Cello, could you give out your vote on the on-going Istruttori nomination? Because this guy... eh don't worry. Just, please if you can do so, read my reason under Nay and you'll see, I know you don't like to go into Istruttori affairs but still, I'm sure you'd agree with what i've said. :P The Thief 21:17, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

RE: Skin[edit source]

Hi D. Cello. I think I was able to recreate the look of the Monaco skin quite well for Oasis. Feel free to tinker with the theme designer at Special:ThemeDesigner. It's a very useful and powerful tool, and easy to use. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 18:41, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Ooooh, very nice! To make the background image transition seamlessly into the background color (light shade of turquoise), I used the background color to put a fade (gradient) on the bottom of the image, as well as on the sides for those few people with giant monitors. Anyway, great choice of background image. It works very well. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 18:09, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, If you have a problem with me being nominated to the Istruttorium then I don't mind if the nomination gets revoked because I don't wan't to offend anyone. Thanks Campbell430 19:27, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

My reasons are stated in your nomination page. You're no offending, you're just not ready. And I'm not gonna revoke it myself, I gave the power to War for a reason, I don't want to go over him if it can be avoided. -- D. Cello 19:53, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, but I'm a bit offended by The Thief's comment on WarClown's page, but I will double check my typing (It's my typing not my spelling) anyway Thanks Campbell430 19:57, October 6, 2010 (UTC)

Oasis theme[edit source]

File:AC Oasis background tester.jpg

Hi there D. I was just playing around with this new ThemeDesigner today and I quickly managed to knock up a pretty good design, which stays faithful to the current look. I've been trying to set it up in my personal css, but to be honest it's been a while since I've done something that complicated with HTML coding, and I've given up. That said, I have still got the details of the coding and was thinking you might want to take a look. I've posted a small screenshot here on you talkpage to have a quick look if you're interested, as maybe a placeholder until something more permanent can be designed.

Unfortunately, I cannot edit Special:ThemeDesigner directly, but I can provide you with the hex colours and necessary files I have saved on my PC if you like. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 20:28, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

It looks interesting. But we currently have a Oasis look based on the Animus 2.0, and I personally think the current one looks more.. refined. While we're at it: Are you able to see it or you see only the default look? -- D. Cello 21:57, October 12, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I can see it, though it's not really my cuppa' tea personally. Unfortunately I do believe I'll be reverting to monobook when Monaco gets deleted, as I find the white background a little to bright and an eyesore IMHO. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 00:09, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Hey D, could we please not have the IRC thing on the mainpage not to be melodramatic but ive been suffering in silence but with Brotherhood coming up could we add it to the sidebar because it prevents me from viewing the news, the activity feed all of that and its kinda annoying

Regards-AdminAuditor(e)Talk 08:54, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Just curious, how does it prevent you from viewing the news and activity feed on the main page? I can see everything perfectly fine with a great amount of freedom. :P THIEF 09:03, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well, this site was made to be viewed in 1027x480 resoulotion or higher, it was meant for a computer/laptop screen. Incidently, the news feed is on the side of the website and home page already, I don't think it would help or reveal itself on your Pocket PC if something from the middle of the page was removed. THIEF 09:57, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Well it used to work but then the IRC was added and it all disappeared AdminAuditor(e)Talk 10:00, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Infobox and page layouts[edit source]

Hi there D. I thought I'd come to you first, as I think you'll have an easier time getting in touch with the other admins than I would, on a proposal I'd like to put forward. As I see it, there are a number of articles on the site now that are using the character infobox, which also contains the "appearances" section. Now, for some articles (like the Ezio article), this section is getting to be extrodinarily long because of the vast number of appearances the character makes. Whilst this is not so much an issue on Monaco, or even Monobook, on Oasis, which as you know is soon to become mandatory, it becomes much more unsightly. I was thinking, if we removed the "real-world" section of the infobox, and placed the "appearances" and actor information at the bottom of each article, much like Wookieepedia, does for example, it would free up a lot of space and allow us to put several more "IU" fields into the infobox.

Of course, we would need to make a decision on what fields would be included in the new infobox, but I think we could come up with a number of good suggestions between us. Sorry if you're having to re-read this a couple of times to make sense of it, it's late here and I'm having a hard time trying to explain it more simply heh. Get back to me, and I'll do my best to respond quickly, cheers. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 00:40, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

I managed to read it jsut fine =P I just woke up from a 13-hour-long sleep oO
Well, I noticed that like 20 seconds ago in the BHevent article about arrival at the Sanctuary, and I agree with you. Do you have any good article at Wookieepedia that exemplifies what we could do here? (link, pls?) -- D. Cello 17:07, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry for my late reply, been busy at Uni. Right, well… I've set up a test page here giving you an idea what it could look like if used on the Templar article (I've removed some sections to make the test page a little smaller, but you'll get the general jist. The way I see it, although the appearances is fairly important, it's better suited at the bottom of the page. Have a look and let me know what you think. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 23:21, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
I think it's simply awesome, Jasca. You can start implementing it in every suitable page right away, and contact the other Istruttori about it too, so they can help you out. =D Also, try notifying War and Thief, so maybe you guys can start working as a team and make a major overhaul, like a Istruttorium blitz =P -- D. Cello 01:32, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Arrival at Sanctuary[edit source]

What do you mean? The 'Arrival at the Sanctuary' page infobox doesn't have "real-world" section, neither does the other Major Event Infoboxes.. or did I mis-understand your post, Cello? :P, Just asking because I created both that page and the 'Escape from Abstergo' page, so I thought maybe I've done something wrong. :D THIEF 21:14, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the infobox and pictures overlap some portions of text, at least here oO But I use wiki zoomed in so the content doesn't stay so bloody small on the screen. -- D. Cello 02:10, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Nah, turns out I don't. It's your formatting that is wrong XD -- D. Cello 02:12, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Muahaha, wrong again, Cello :D. I copied the code from one of War's Wikiproject articles, all I did was change small text. So it was War's formatting, huzzah! In all seriousness though, this only appears on Oasis, right? :P THIEF 04:50, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Aye, but Oasis IS the new Monaco, so you'll have to get it fixed. Sorry, mate. =/ -- D. Cello 05:41, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
No need to be sorry, although it may be the template that needs fixing (as I didn't make the code), and if it's not the template, then I'm really not sure. Does the template go haywire on any other Major Event articles? THIEF 05:44, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
I didn't see the other, Thief, just that one. This bloody new skin is messing a lot of things, we are gonna need a new home page. I'm thinking in opening a contest for it... XD -- D. Cello 20:13, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed it now. The image overlaps the article.. weird. This new skin is so balls, have you seen all the complaints?, there's over about a two thousand complaints on the Wikia staff member's blogs and talk pages.. Maybe we should use Monobook from now on as this wiki's default skin? It would be easier as it would save us redesigning our templates, images, userboxes and pretty much everything this new skin messed up, and we'll get our sidebar back and some space too! It would be so much easier, I've heard some other users and wikis are going to switch to Monobook and use that aswell. So it would be weird to have half of our community with one totally different skin, and the other half with another. Formatting would go haywire.
THIEF 21:14, October 20, 2010 (UTC)
Monobook lacks a lot fo features that the new ones have (I think). Maybe we better hold on to this bloody oasis and see how things turn out. Maybe someone at the staff will pull their head off their arse and actually improve this freaking thing. -- D. Cello 01:27, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Animus 1.0 Look[edit source]

Hey D. I think I have the 1.0 look nailed down. I couldn't rework that image you sent me for proper use, so I just used what Joe sent me. I played around with the designer at that Sandbox Wiki, and these were the results:

I think it's pretty good. Better than this snow storm. So, what say you? Do you rike it? --WarClownWanna Talk? 11:31, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

Hm.. not really =/
First, the background doesn't remember in ANY way the Animus background. Second, it's too dark. The first animus had a contrast between blue/light blue and white details, with only the very very VERY bottom background color being a darker shape of blue.
I don't like that background, it jsut doesn't remember anything we have on AC. =S -- D. Cello 15:51, October 21, 2010 (UTC)
I made a new skin, but honestly, all that blue hurts my eye x.x
one of the problems in using the Animus 1.28 is that his background is overly elaborated, while Animus 2.0 is mostly white, what makes the image much smaller (we have a 100k limit for the image.. I know, ridiculous.) -- D. Cello 22:07, October 21, 2010 (UTC)

I see. I'll work on a better image, this time with a tablet. As for this new skin, it's not half bad, although the blue is a bit exaggerated. I think the buttons should be red. That's only me though. --WarClownWanna Talk? 07:58, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

I hope you don't mind, but I made the color change. Specifically, the buttons and the links. --WarClownWanna Talk? 08:03, October 22, 2010 (UTC)

Cello, the Animus 1.28 skin on right now, is really freakin' great. Seriously good job, my eyes are saved from that white abonimation! Cheers! THIEF 23:11, October 22, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Thief! But I liked the old 2.0 one =/ -- D. Cello 02:05, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Really? I thought that was too bright and white, it hurt my eyes, unfortunatley :(. But if you really like it that much just use it, I guess. Although some other users were also complaining it was too bright as well. It was still good though! :P THIEF 02:59, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

How do I make a colon?[edit source]

Introducing-- Staff Merits![edit source]

Hey D., this idea's been swirling around my head for a while now. I was thinking, another way to reward users for their hard work is to give them staff awarded-only merit badges, as a sign of knowledge and awesomeness. It would give user's an ego boost, it would help them out in votes and voting sessions, it would make them look and feel more appreciated and like a better editor too!

Each staff member should have a different merit with a different name for it, and if a user collects them all (very unlikely)... well, I don't know, yet. Maybe, if they haven't already been nominated for the Istruttori or if they don't want to join, then they should be granted Rollback rights. But that's only if they haven't already been nominated, and, they probably would want nominate themselves after earning quite a few merits.

Here's my Merit, I'm going to award it to a user, but if you don't like the idea on the offchance, please don't delete the userbox, as I'm sure that one user would be unhappy if it was taken away. If you don't like it, I'll stop awarding it after that one user, I hope you like the idea, I'm sure you will.

Cheers --THIEF 04:12, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Hey that's a pretty neat idea! I like it (That's just me though). Like a little seal of approval. Can I make my own? --WarClownWanna Talk? 04:38, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, sure! That's the idea, the staff has to have their own different, unique seals/merits, I'm glad you like the idea. --THIEF 04:42, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Don't you prefer to say in the badge that it was awarded by "The Thief" instead of ThiefAC? oO Nothign against the nick, but The Thief is YOU, you personally, while ThiefAC is too much... nick/login like =P -- D. Cello 05:34, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
I'll be honest. I'm afraid to ask for all of your opinions after that horrible theme I made. =/ Anyways, here it is. If you don't like me using the Vault Boy, I'll get an image of the Harlequin. So let the criticism commence. --WarClownWanna Talk? 05:54, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Awesome, thanks. Sure, I'll change it to "Thief". I'll put my template in the awards category too. @War, I knew something was fishy after what you said in brackets earlier. Don't worry about it, creative artists like me get that shit all the time. Don't let people get to you, mate, it's the only way to live :D. On a side note, remember that Istruttori poster I made? "that one guy who beats everyone to edits"? Pretty awkward description. Oh yeah, is the Vault Boy good, or should I use a pic of the Harlequin? --WarClownWanna Talk? 06:25, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Text colour fix for Cboxes and Templates[edit source]

Hey Cello,

With this new theme colour change-over, it's come to my attention that some CBox headings are unreadable, as well as some templates.

Look at the Arrival at the Sanctuary page, the MEBox name header is unreadable, and the spoiler alert template is also unreadable. This applies to your talkpage archive box up the top there (still readable, but difficult) as well as many other templates, maybe you shouldn't make template text/CBox/header text/etc white? I think maybe black or some other colour would suit best.

Cheers, --THIEF 22:37, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks =] Thief, when you see things like that, feel free to edit withotu asking me first. Just notify me saying "hey, I changed this, this, this and this" and we're good ;D -- D. Cello 04:22, October 24, 2010 (UTC)
Well, it has something to do with the theme's default text colour, so maybe an overall text colour change for templates?, because changing each and every template to black font is going to be hard work, so I'd like to see if there's an easy way out first. :P THIEF 07:30, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

i know this is a public page but if i help article by changing the text so it sounds better and is actually correct then why the heck would anybody change it back to being incorrect. the reason why i ask is i edited an article of Rome on the AC brotherhood locations that had some gramical errors and the guy who wrote the article changed it back to being wrong

No, articles are meant to be written in past tense and there was some error such as stagnante instead of stagnant, so I didnt do anything wrong and if i made a mistake, I'm sorry for it. and please sign your posts with ~ x4. Thanks. Campbell430 13:04, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

Infoboxes updated[edit source]

Hey D. You may well have already noticed (but if not, here's a heads up), but I went ahead with the infobox updates. War Clown requested I do an additional box for the location infoboxes, so i've done that as well. Let me know what you think. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 21:59, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

It looks pretty good, Jasca. Way better than the old boxylogoed one... If you think there are more infoboxes that need revamping, no need to ask me, just go ahead, change then and show them to me after you've completed it ;D -- D. Cello 22:01, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

Fixed templates for Oasis[edit source]

Hey there, Cello.

As you may recall my last post, I mentioned there were a few problems with the text colours of all the templates as they were invisible and hard to see with the new awesome Animus Oasis Skin. I've fixed a lot of the templates, and changed the font colours to black and such, but I can't seem to fix the Policy or numerous event infoboxes. It took quite a while to fix all these template colours, so I hope it's appreciated. You owe me something, Cello! XD And no Assassin's Cheesecake, i'm not a big fan of cheesecakes I'm afraid.

Just tell me if I've missed a template besides the two mentioned above, and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers, --THIEF 05:29, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Needs fixing! No special prize for you yet! =P -- D. Cello 15:53, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, but you are wrong! If you had of read my message I told you that I couldn't fix the Policy or Event boxes! But I still fixed the numerous 30+ templates :P. --THIEF 21:09, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, crap! XD -- D. Cello 21:33, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Btw, I changed the policy one =P -- D. Cello 21:34, October 25, 2010 (UTC)
Nice. I have to go now. I'll talk later. --THIEF 21:40, October 25, 2010 (UTC)

Alright! It seems everything's fixed now, I believe. I even done the copyright templates. Hah. Just tell me if I've missed something. :D THIEF 05:15, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Perfect Thief. I'll think of your reward. By the way, I just saw in your page: "Cello (If I didn't have this i'd be perma-banned :D, his awesomeness knows no boundaries)" XDD Awesome! ;D -- D. Cello 05:28, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
By the way, mate. That what you did right there is awesome on it's own right. For me, it's a list of helpful editors with their pros (withotu cons though) in one single line, perfect for me to know who can be something more here one day =] Aaaand did you saw you are listed twice in Autobot? oO -- D. Cello 05:31, October 26, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah thanks!, I'm listed twice because.. I dunno. Cheers! --THIEF 05:51, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

Spanish Project[edit source]

This is what i call "SPEED". Well, as you have read from my other message, i would like to create an assassins creed wikia in spanish, because i think that the other spanish wikias about assassins creed are very poor.

So i would need some help.

My main idea was to begin by copying some pages from here and translate them into spanish in the other wikia.

What do you think about this?Freddy Rodriguez 18:59, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

I already was asked by about two other users from spanish ACwikis to do that, and my answer to you is the same as them: Sure, feel free to use our content, Just mention us as source. =] -- D. Cello 01:43, October 27, 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for that. The only thing i need is some help by doing categories and all of that. I´m so happy about this!!Freddy Rodriguez 05:45, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

[edit source]

It looks like the image cache for the logo didn't update when you uploaded the white logo, so I downloaded and re-uploaded it. That seems to have fixed it, as I now see the white logo. Let me know if you have any other issues. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 19:31, October 26, 2010 (UTC)

I haven't played it yet, how the hell can I not like it? No, I'm not one of those guys with his head up his arse who talk shit about things they don't know, mate. Until I play it, my only oppinion is that I am very excited. -- D. Cello 16:28, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

New WikiProject[edit source]

Cello. Since people have already begun making articles about the missions of AC2 (and one from AC:B) I have a proposal. Let's make the task an official WikiProject, just like the Timeline and Targets. I already made a userbox and enumerated all of the missions in my sandbox. I'll work out the rules after you give the idea a go. The name of the project will be Absolute Symbiosis (familiar, eh?). If you have a better name in mind, tell me. So, what say you? --WarClownWanna Talk? 06:39, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

You got a "go"! -- D. Cello 16:33, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Rollback rights for DanMan7308[edit source]

Hey D.,

Just wanted to inform you we have a new chief editor for Absoloute Symbiosis/WikiProject Memories.
War and I have both agreed on letting Dan be the chief editor. He's been editing here for a long time, and has been one of the best community-friendly users on this website. To look at the exact cons (only one) and pros (a lot) of this decision, click here. Although I'm sure you'll agree with my (and War's) decision.

Also, I've forgotten. Does Il Carmelengo get a minority of admin powers? Totally confused here.. as you've mentioned Carmelengo having them a few times, as well as being not sure yourself. I asked this before, but I don't think you got back to me. Cheers! --THIEF 22:58, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Dan's rollback granted, congratulate him for me, please. Aaaand Congrats, thief! You now have admin powers! I msut leave now and I'm very sorry for not being able to greet you properly, please contact War or Sima for the admin-power's welcome message I send them so they can teach you the basics (links and etc). Congrats again, mate! You deserved =] -- D. Cello 23:05, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, seriously! I'll start reading the adminship help pages and all that. I'll go and message Dan about his rollback rights. Cheers alot! --THIEF 23:25, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
Also, I had this small idea rolling inside my head today, for the main page, I think we should replace the Featured Article area with a Places of Interest section. Where we would list all places of interest inside this wiki. We'll also have them in 'button' format. Like the two AC Game buttons at the top of the page. What do you think? --THIEF 23:40, November 1, 2010 (UTC)
I've been thinking in similar things, but I want a WHOLE main page revamp. I kinda like the Dragon Age Wiki home, we may drawsome inspiration from there. -- D. Cello 23:48, November 1, 2010 (UTC)

Minor Typos[edit source]

Hey, I was just looking at the Manual of Style/Character Sample and I notice that there was a typo under the title After/Legacy. the sentence was, "What happened after the last played/seem event, things mentioned or repercussions felt." I believe you meant to put the word 'seen' instead of 'seem', so just a heads up. Also in the sentence "Time-unrelated characteristiscs, psicological and physical characteristics and personality." The word psicological is misspelt. I wouldn't have bothered you, but I can't edit it myself.

Got your message. You have Facebook? I have this old dummy account set up there named Jack White. You can contact me there. --WarClownWanna Talk? 04:17, November 2, 2010 (UTC)

Hey D! Been a while mate. Loving the new look. :) You still running this place single handedly? It's looking very good if you are. :) I'll be back (for real) for Brotherhood. --Zwoooooosh 06:54, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

By my unborn childrens, holy crap! How you been doing, dude? =] Indeed, long time no see, glad to know you won't abandon us ^^
As always, I'm the Big Cheese around here, but teh staff crew growed significantly. I managed to implement a Istruttori hierarchy, and we got two very capable guys running the squad. Brotherhood is almost out, so I'm officialy re-instituing you into the Istruttorium. Your rollbacks rights are still preserved though, I never removed them. =] Let me know if you need anything, and welcome back, mate. -- D. Cello 21:21, November 3, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, by the way. We have plenty of new blood here, try to take your time and meet them, I'm sure you will like them. Also, from the old times, Jasca is a Istruttori again and Sima has been promoted to Admin. Ah, and I must say this to keep appearances: please sign your posts =P -- D. I've been doing alright dude, hope the same goes for you. Glad to hear the Instruttori didn't fall apart when their shining light (me! (Just kidding just kidding :P)) became inactive and glad to be back apart of the old team. I'm probably going to go crazy with the Brotherhood content like I did for AC2. Same thing goes for last time, I'm more of a media guy, less written content. I'll try to add my edits here and there but purdy pictures are my forte. And yeah, I'll poke my head around their talk pages and introduce myself. :) Can't get over the new skin - the wikia looks beautiful. Signing posts.. lets see.. I think I remember. :P --Zwoooooosh 06:54, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Adding AC:B button to main page[edit source]

Hi D. Cello. With Brotherhood about to release, I think it would be a good idea (helpful to wiki visitors) if there was a linked image button for Brotherhood next to the ones for AC and AC2. I uploaded a new version of of the existing file named ACBbutton.jpg that uses the latest version of the game's cover art. Then I used that to preview what it would look like added to the main page. Here's a screenshot. As you can see it fits nicely into the available space (when displaying the text link on 2 lines). What do you think? If you agree, feel free to add it, or if you prefer, I'll do it - just say the word. :) JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 23:56, November 4, 2010 (UTC)

Hey Joe. Aye, looks great, mate. Since you already have the code, go ahead, add it there, please! =] -- D. Cello 00:09, November 5, 2010 (UTC)

There's a spelling error in the automated welcome message.[edit source]

Hi D. Cello! I've got three things to say here:

One - In the very cool looking welcome message: "Please enjoy your stay here and help us to improve this wiki. As starters, you can refer to this links: " This should be these, as in "refer to these links." Since links is plural, it should be 'these' instead of 'this'. Also, it's something I can't fix by editing (I think.)

Two - I was just trying to have the username of ‘Ālim, and then had to change it due to some kind of browser error I was having due to the special character "Ā," I guess. You mentioned on my talk page that I should not make corrections to people's user pages, yet on the 'help: user pages' page, it says (quote) "Small changes, like formatting fixes or spelling corrections, are absolutely fine, and can be done freely - it's always nice to find your user page improved." If this is not the case, this page should be corrected to say so. I would not have done it if I did not think it was okay, and actually expected. The only reason I was on your page at all, actually, was to comment on the welcome message problem, and I got caught up reading.

Three - Hi.

Irritated Alim 03:45, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, mate. Didn't know about either, both messages fixed. And unfortunately, I can't help you with the nickname thing. Browser compabitily is wiki software business, and if you want to use that login, I would suggest contacting Wikia directly to really solve the issue. Need anything, you know where to find me. -- D. Cello 03:53, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
Great! Glad I was able to make a difference. I've dealt with the nickname stuff, just by changing to something less complex.
I see that change on the user help page now. Thanks for clearing that up. If I had read that, I would have known to ask first. Still, I think I'll try to stick to the more mainstream pages for now, and dodge user pages completely. =) Irritated Alim 04:10, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
Meh, no problem whatsoever. I see you are pretty fixed with fixing typos, you seem to have potential here. ;D -- D. Cello 04:12, November 8, 2010 (UTC)
Hahah, yes, I do enjoy fixing typos. Especially when I'm waiting for my AP points in Project Legacy to rejuvinate. And glad you think so, thanks! Irritated Alim 05:34, November 8, 2010 (UTC)

Intro Videos for Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy[edit source]

Hey, D.Cello, I've got the videos from the legacy game saved, and I was wondering if they could be put up on their respective chapter pages in Legacy. Do we do video on this wiki? I know we (by 'we' I mean all of you talented wiki veterans) do youtube linked video, but do we host any of our own videos? I could just put them up on youtube and then embed the links, I guess, but that's... just.... too easy.

Thanks, -- Irritated Alim 04:28, November 9, 2010 (UTC)

I think you can in Special:Upload, I've never tried it myself; though it might work. Cheers, --THIEF 04:56, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
:: Nuppers, it doesn't work. Sorry, but I guess uploading it to a site that supports embed codes for HTML (Which is the code that makes up websites such as this here wiki) is the way to go. :P --THIEF 04:59, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
I guess I'll have to just use youtube then... :/ Thanks for trying.
-- Irritated Alim 05:09, November 9, 2010 (UTC)
So I've got all four chapter intro videos up on youtube, and I while I can place them in the correct pages, I can't get the placement right. Could you help out, D.Cello? They would fit perfectly in the space next to the contents box, and could be hidden if and when the user clicks 'hide' on the contents box. But, alas, I do not know how to do this. Here are the youtube links: (Youtube has processed 1 and 2, but not 3 or 4. Maybe it just needs time?)

Videos must be added in gallery under the Videos name as a section, Alim. Don't mess formating to fit content. -- D. Cello 00:38, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Done! And it looks all purty! :D Check out the legacy pages, (if you want?) I'm not sure that there will be agreement as to where I put the videos, but I will put a pre-emptive explanation here: Since the script (aka words) of the videos had been meticiously typed in by other people at the top of each chapter's page, I put the video in at the top (after the contents table) and moved the text down next to it. I know the other videos are usually at the bottom, but these are central to understanding the chapter to come, in this case. Here's a link to the chapter 1 page... from reading other talk comments, it seems you like links to where you want to go. =P http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Chapter_1_-_Bartolomeo_d%27Alviano
-- Irritated Alim 06:08, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Ay, I hate when people tell me they want me to see something and don't send links x.x. Congrats, you seem to be in a good way of not getting on my bad side.
And surprisingly, the pages and video formatting looks pretty good. Good job. =] -- D. Cello 13:56, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Big Cheese![edit source]

Hey D. Cello! I'm glad you liked the portal. And we're all here because of the same shitty idea that Wikia came out with, so I can understand what you're going through. I (poorly) documented the portal system in case I needed it. That's where you'd find the core explanation of how it works.

As I'm very proud of my portal I'm more than happy to make it work here. I can set up the components and the basic premises; Then, you and your team can go in and flesh it out with the site specific info. I had to ask the Wikia folks to make the Portal namespace unique so that it would not have ads. You would need to do the same if you wanted the design to fall back gracefully for users who do not have javascripts enabled. -- tierrie talk contr 05:04, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely, mate! Thanks for your quick and entusiastic response, I'm very glad to see your' willing to bring that awesome skin of yours to us!
I'm after contacting Wikia about changing the portal namespace, anything you need to get the yoke going, just ask away! =] -- D. Cello 05:15, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
That portal is bloody awesome, btw. Thanks!! --THIEF 05:23, November 10, 2010 (UTC)
Alright, mate, Wikia answered me with the following:
"We can set up a "Portal" namespace, but I believe Portal namespaces still have ads. The only exception is WoWWiki's Portal:Main, but that's because it's their main page. If we create the Portal namespace, we need to ask a few questions about it so we know how to set the technical options. Should the articles in this new namespace be included in the wiki's article count, and in the "Random page" function? If so, then we need to know that this should be marked as a "content namespace". Should the articles in be reachable through the wiki's search box? If you are creating a content namespace, the answer is usually yes, but there are sometimes reasons not to. (For example, help and policy pages don't appear in a normal wiki search.) Lastly, ensure that no article start with the namespace name. For example, if you are starting a Portal namespace, make sure that any page starting in "Portal:" does not yet exist. This is due to the technical set-up of MediaWiki databases and any page under that desired namespace name may no longer be accessible once the namespace is set up."
Now, the articles-with-"portal"-in-the-name thingy I'm taking care of, but the rest and the technical stuff would'be better answered by you, cause, c'mere, you know exactly what you're doing, completely opposite of me. XD -- D. Cello 03:46, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
Sounds like they are taking this Portal thing much more seriously than before. When I asked for mine they just went "please please please don't leave us we need you" and turned it on. Our namespace notedly doesn't have ads but that's not important at all since Portals should mimic the front page and I have not been able to get them to disable the top-right ad on the front page.
Also I might have made up that entire encounter with me and Wikia.
To summarize, I'd have them take a look at our setting and just copy that over ;)
The other thing I'd need is access to MediaWiki:wikia.css and MediaWiki:common.js. You can temporarily promote me to an admin for a week, or lower the permission on those pages. Whatever you feel comfortable with. Let me know when the Portal namespace thing gets settled in. -- tierrie talk contr 23:07, November 11, 2010 (UTC)
I'll make a component for Assassin's Creed and Assassin's Creed II as examples and you can extend it as far as you want. We started with DA, DA2 and DA (the series). Then, based on the we expanded to include a few pages that are popular with readers. -- tierrie talk contr 23:12, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Cello, look I'm one of the the spanish assassin's creed wiki's administrator( http://es.assassins.wikia.com/wiki/Assassin's_Creed_Wiki ), and i'd like to know how did you change your web's desing, you know the animus background and the blue desing of the wiki, if you know how to change, I'd be really pleased, if you tell me how to do it. If you want and you have time, please answer me in mi page.

Thank you (sorry if a don't have a perfect english, in just stuidiing it LOL)

--$uamani · Mesages? I'm really interest in your opinion!!! 18:16, November 10, 2010 (UTC)

Ahoy, Suamani. If you have admin's power, you can access the tool through this link. I would advise you (or someone else if you can't) let your creativity flow when designing, in order to give a unique feel to that wiki.
And I was already asked permission to use our content there by about 3 of your users/staff, I hope you guys are giving us the proper credit. -- D. Cello 00:44, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

A couple of things[edit source]

As I move the code over there's going to be a few things that we do differently from this wiki. I'm going to note them here so you can resolve the differences.

 • Dragon Age's featured article system is a random one. We wrote 21 of them and use the <choose> to select one at random. I left [Portal/Component/FeaturedArticle|Assassin's Creed] as t|FA.
 • You might want to consider changing the color of your visited link as dark blue on dark blue is unreadable.
 • I created all the components I have so far, and you are welcome to use as many or as little as you please. For example, DA doesn't use the Featured Article component.
 • Dragon Age Wiki went with two major icons and a few minor icons on the main page. But you can pretty much put anything you want up on there. I mocked up a 4 icon design for you and left it up to your community to decide what you want to put on there. Each link can go to a category, a page, or even a portal. To link something to a portal you should also encapsulate it in a div tag so that it slides to the right page.
 • I'm going to make the background transparent and you can revert the changes if your community do not feel like it works for you.

-- tierrie talk contr 23:52, November 11, 2010 (UTC)

Grand altogether. I'm after emailing wikia, I'll let you know of their answer. And congrats, you now are a sysop here! XD -- D. Cello 02:43, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
I dropped the opacity of the background to 80%. And mocked up the front page at Template:Portal. You can see what your wiki looks like there. You and your team will have to fill out theHelp:Portal#Portal_Components and make sure there's a corresponding Portal page for each component (they are used when javacscript is disabled or non functional).
Looks like it's almost done! Lets see what your community thinks about it - and if they have any suggestions. If there's good suggestions I'd like to implement it here and take it back to DA as well. -- tierrie talk contr 05:36, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
Amazing, Tierrie! The transparent background looks awesome, I wasn't sure it could be done. oO Altough, I am curious to see if it would look nice a "bit" more transparent. The background is pretty opaque, I would like to see it more clearer if it wouldn't hamper the content display. Can be done, please? =]
Also, Wikia answered: Portal namespace active, without ads ;D -- D. Cello 20:57, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
Work's done. It's all yours now. When you're ready to release it just copy Portal code to your main page, and then change it's content to #REDIRECTAssassin's Creed Wiki. Drop me a line if you need help. -- tierrie talk contr 22:21, November 12, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks very much, mate. =] This would've been impossible without you ^^ What you want for a reward? =P

Hi D. Cello. Wikia will be releasing a slightly redesigned user page in the near future, but first it needs to be QA tested on a few wikis. I was wondering if you'd like Assassin's Creed Wiki to be one of those wikis. You can see the new user page design here. (NOTE: The "My ____ Wiki interview" section is a separate extension and will not be included in this test.) The most notable changes are showing which wikis the user has contributed to the most (with the option to hide wikis from the list), the user's recent activity, and the user's "Top pages" / most edited (with the option to hide pages from the list).

So shoot me a message on my talk page when you decide whether or not to participate in the test. Thanks. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 20:13, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Cool. Assassin's Creed Wiki will be added to the list. The new user page should be enabled sometime next week. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 21:53, November 12, 2010 (UTC)

Replacing existing images[edit source]

DOH! I hate when that happens. The reason it does is because the image server cache is "stuck" for lack of a better word. Whenever possible (eg. any image that isn't the wiki's logo or background image), the best workaround is to simply upload the new version of the image as a different file name that doesn't exist, even if you only change one letter. Then just change the page(s) where that image is used to use the new file name. JoePlay<staff /> (talk) 01:27, November 13, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! Will do
