The Tripod of Plataia was a golden tripod placed on a column beside the Apollo of Salamina within the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis, Greece.
History[edit | edit source]
The tripod was made from the tithe of the Persian booty, as a dedication to the god Apollo by the 31 Greek cities that took part in the Battle of Plataia during the Greco-Persian Wars.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the monument was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Historically, the tripod was originally in Delphi before being relocated to Constantinople in 324 by Byzantine Emperor Constantine the Great.
