The Tour de l'Isle is a large crenellated tower in Grenoble, France, built in 1381.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In May 1519, members of the local chapter of the Assassins visited the Tour de l'Isle as part of their search for the clues to the havens Leonardo da Vinci hid in the city.[2] At the tower,[3] an Assassin overheard someone yelling for help through a locked door and promptly picked the lock,[4] releasing a man who had been in the dark cellar.[5] Jean, an inspector, thanked his saviour and explained that he had entered the tower to investigate a fire on the roof and ended up locked, offering his services as an investigator to the Assassins.[6] Climbing the tower up to the roof,[7] the Assassin found a plaque detailing that a fire inspection had been recently undertaken there by Leonardo's ally, Sir Pierre Taillard, chevalier de Bayard, himself.[8] They also retrieved a piece of fabric with an embroidered red lion found near the plaque.[9]
