Help categorizing[edit source]
Can anyone help me to make this work (putting articles into Category:Articles needing images)? Said articles with this template are already classified as Articles needing images but in the category they do not show up (on mine at least.) --Silver Mage Ω 12:53, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Categorizing needed images by media[edit source]
I have created a draft version of the template which would categorize pages by what media the image would come from. It will (if I've done it right) allow listing the media in the template, similar to Template:Update, without breaking the pages that use the current template. We'd be able to add that information as we're able, and it would automatically use that information to add the page to media-specific image needed categories, ie "Category:Articles needing images from Altaïr's Chronicles" or "Category:Articles needing images from AC2", without needing to add OoU media categories or indicators to the pages outside the template.
The code will not add categories on its own; all possible categories are coded into the template.
I've uploaded the draft to User:Fielran/Sandbox. What are people's thoughts on such a change?

- Seems fine to me. I just have a couple of questions: (1) does the template allow to have more than 1 media per characters for people like Hytham/Eivor that show up a lot? and (2) if there is a typo on the media name, does anything (like a catch-all category) get added? - Soranin (talk) 12:17, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- It will scan a list added as a template parameter and add anything that appears in the list, so say Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad's page has all the images it needs from AC1, but needs more from Altaïr's Chronicles and from AC Revelations, the template would be added {{imageneed|[[Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles]], [[Assassin's Creed: Revelations]]}} and would add both corresponding categories (in this case, "Articles needing images from Altaïr's Chronicles" and "Articles needing images from Assassin's Creed: Revelations", though the final category names are definitely up for discussion).
- There is not currently a mechanism to add a category specifically for pages with misspelled media, but everything still goes into the main Articles needing images category whether or not it's added to a more specific category. I could look into changing that but I'm not sure my programming is up to it and I'm honestly not sure it's possible with the extensions currently installed on the wiki.

- I've figured out how to add the main "Articles needing images" category only if no other image needed category is added. --Fielran (talk) 16:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- My hands are full and coding is not my expertise. I trust you two to determine when this is ready to roll-out and have my blessings to do so. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 03:55, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
