Talk:Trade Goods
Quest items?[edit source]
Should we create an article for each of the quest items, like has already been done in the cases of the Obsidian Eye and the Atlantis artifacts, or create a single page akin to this for the less... significant... quest items? Sadelyrate (siniath) 10:44, October 15, 2019 (UTC)
Origins?[edit source]
Is this term used in Origins as well? Is it possible to frame this a feature of or categorization by the Animus HR-8 and its successor, the Animus HR-8.5? Lacrossedeamon (talk) 05:26, November 3, 2019 (UTC)
- The Origins equivalents are split into "Animal Goods" and "Trinkets". Could make a page for Trade Goods (Origins) and have "Animal Goods" and "Trinkets" as two separate headings.V i l k a T h e W o l f (talk) 06:39, November 3, 2019 (UTC)
List order[edit source]
This list is alphabetical but I think we should do it in the order that they are listed in game.Lacrossedeamon (talk) 05:42, August 8, 2020 (UTC)
"Animus designation" (Merge proposal)[edit source]
I find the writing perspective defining this as an "Animus designation" to be very awkward and the interpretation also speculative. Also, it goes against wiki standards since it is defining trade goods like a term rather than explaining what it actually is. See Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 21:49, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- I would also like to add that the inconsistency in capitalization indicates the indecision as to how it should be written, and the rest of the lede has had typical gameplay language, so I am putting up a merge proposal that there only be a general page for trading goods throughout history. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 22:01, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well I have actually wanted to make an animus inventory menu page in a similar vein to how the animus target menu page is set up. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 12:52, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- Do you mean you would want that instead of a single trade goods page? Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 04:52, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well we are already getting complaints about some of our larger pages so I think formatting it like that would be unwieldy but I’m thinking we could try using subpages more with articles. So the the Animus inventory menu would detail the develops, changes, and major features between the different animus models and sessions and would link to subpages that get into all the items and flavor text. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 06:47, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- I honestly much prefer a lore-based article on trade goods, and I think we should only organize by Animus menus in last resort cases due to how "gamey" it is. It is also just in and of itself really awkward to talk about items traded in a historical setting in the context of how they appear in a character's Animus session as opposed to talking directly about them. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 00:02, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think the two are mutually exclusive but I feel its already awkward to try to talk about trade goods from the perspective of the limited items in the games. How the items are used in the historical setting should be discussed on that items page I think, not on the trade good page. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 03:47, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well, of course items being discussed on their own pages and listed in a trade goods page is also not mutually exclusive. I do think that approaching "trade goods" as an Animus inventory menu and approaching it as an article about commerce in human history, with a list of inventory, are mutually exclusive though since they would be redundant pages differing only in relative IU-OOUness. I don't think approaching this topic from the perspective of trade in human history is too awkward given the need to list these items but fit them into an IU-perspective because it is common for school history textbooks to talk a little about traded goods. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 04:15, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Sure but trade goods isnt the only subsection of the inventory menu. There's also stuff like quest items which I believe the only way to talk about them is via the animus framing otherwise how do you differentiate it from any of the other stuff in the menu? And if one group needs the animus framing I think for consistency's sake they all do. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 05:47, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- I see, I didn't realize you were also talking about quest items. We could still list those as "[protagonist]'s quest items" if we really have to, right? Or alternatively "mission items". And at this point, I'm really not comfortable going ahead with any of the gamey-Animus perspective unless we actually had a wiki-wide discussion where the community decides that we will allow this approach. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 01:46, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
- Don't worry I also want to see if I can collect more evidence for a more literal interpretation of game mechanics as animus interface. Lacrossedeamon (talk) 03:47, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
