Contradictory info

So there is contradictory explicit and implicit information in game about Beowulf. In the base game a note by Brissy the Elder mentions his desire for Rig through the Rigsogur to become as well known as Ragnar or Beowulf meaning Beowulf is already famous by Rig and Brissy's time. However the bonus dlc Legend of Beowulf while never explicitly mentioning Beowulf in game uses the names of the other characters such as Grendel and Hrothgar implying that Eivor is in fact the basis for the legend. However the Abbess says she changed the names in her manuscript which means the names in her work wouldn't be Grendel or Hrothgar and that she didn't write Beowulf? It's all very confusing.
