Is Aelfgar the canon leader?

Well there is the implication that Bragi (Viking) and Bragi Boddason are the same person but otherwise just some of the arc ordering is weird. It seems to me Ubisoft just told him to play the game and then novelize his own playthrough without any specific guidance.
