Sun was the chief of a local village located on the coastal regions of the Ming Empire.

In the 1520s, Sun was one of those who were forced to make an agreement with the Japanese pirate Taki Choji, offering him tributes of food and resources in exchange for peace and no raids on their villages. In 1526, Zhang Yong, a Ming eunuch and the Templar leader of the Eight Tigers, met with Choji, claiming to have come on behalf of Sun to present their tribute.[1]
