Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu

Ralph Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu (1638 – 1709) was an English courtier and diplomat. He was the father of John Montagu.
In 1675, Ralph constructed a mansion in the Bloomsbury district of London that came to be known as the Montagu House. Eventually, the mansion was converted into the first British Museum.[1]
Following Ralph's death, his son John sold the house and built a new residence in Whitehall.[1]
