John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu

John Montagu, 2nd Duke of Montagu (died 1749) was an English peer. He was the son of Ralph Montagu.
In 1731, John sold his father's house and bought up three adjoining plots of land in Whitehall. On these plots he built the second Montagu House, a relatively modest mansion by the standards of the day, measuring 4,300 square feet. John Montagu died in 1749 and the house became the property of his daughter Mary and his son-in-law George Brudenell.[1]
