This article is about the warehouse on Kythera Island. For other uses, see Customs Warehouse.

The Phoinikeos Customs Warehouse was a warehouse in Skandeia Bay on Kythera Island, Greece. Part of Skandeia Harbor, it was used by local customs officers to check incoming and outgoing goods. It was guarded by a medium-sized military force.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, the High Priestess of Aphrodite, Eritha, had three mercenaries arrested and imprisoned at the warehouse. Her twin-sister, Diona, tasked the harbor master Glaukos to free them, but this was actually done later by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
Around the same time, Kassandra also burnt supplies and claimed valuables within the place, as well as slew the captains stationed there.[2]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The warehouse gets its name from the Phoenicians, an ancient sea-faring Semetic speaking people from modern day Lebanon who are regarded as the inventors of the modern alphabet, and founders of many colonies in the Western Mediterranean, the most famous of which was the city of Carthage in North Africa.
