Phaistos Theater

The Phaistos Theater was a theater in the ancient polis of Phaistos in Messara, on the Greek island of Krete.

History

Situated at the heart of the place, it was used for religious ceremonies, political assemblies, and shows involving bulls until the polis was destroyed by the forces of Gortyn. ^{[citation needed]}

During the Peloponnesian War, the Cult of Kosmos claimed the theater and turned it into their local base. When they set out to seek a certain disk, the key to the labyrinth below Knossos Palace, they captured and beat Ardos' old caretaker at the theater until he was rescued by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.
