Minoji Kurata (倉田 三ノ路 Kurata Minoji; born 24 November) is a Japanese mangaka.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

While attending university, Kurata read a lot of books on Chinese literacy. The genres included romance and martial arts. The contents later inspired some of her works.[1]

Her first published manga was the romantic slice of life Shosei Katsuragi Shinjirou no Nichijou in 2010, which continued until 2014. Between 2015 and 2017, her next work was Tenkyuu wa Haruka: Keigetsu Den. She later became the artist of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Maomao no Koukyuu Nazotoki Techou assisting writer Natsu Hyuuga.[2]

Assassin's Creed[edit | edit source]

On 19 September 2019, Kurata was announced as the artist of the then-upcoming manga Assassin's Creed: China on the official Sunday GX Twitter account. Kurata adapted the events of the video game Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China into the manga, and using story treatments from Ubisoft added a new modern day story.[3] The manga was then serialized in November.[4] Given the fact that Kurata was also a fan of the series, Ubisoft allowed her a lot of freedom with the story and characters.[1] Later that month, Kurata posted on Twitter an announcement of the first tankōbon volume set to be released on 19 February 2020. Kurata included a chibi drawing of Shao Jun in the post.[5]

In June 2020, to promote the French localization of Assassin's Creed: China (translated as Assassin's Creed: Blade of Shao Jun), publisher Mana Books made a documentary about Kurata and her art. The documentary, uploaded to the Mana Books YouTube channel, is completely in Japanese and only has French subtitles. Throughout the video, Kurata's face is also never shown to preserve her privacy.[1]

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Kurata is a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise, having played all the games.[1] In April 2020, Kurata got a Shiba Inu puppy.[6] In June, Kurata contracted gastroenteritis and was hospitalized but quickly recovered.[7]
