Mestor was the childhood friend of the historian Herodotos and his younger brother Theodoros who lived during the 5th century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Mestor, Theodoros, and Herodotos all lived under the same roof under the care of the latter's parents in Samos. Prior to the onset of the Peloponnesian War, Herodotos left Samos, leaving a distraught Mestor and an indifferent Theodoros.

Planned invasion of Samos[edit | edit source]

In the 420s BCE, after the deaths of his parents, for which Mestor was responsible, Mestor was reunited with Herodotos during his return to Samos after missing his parents' funeral.[1] Herodotos and his misthios friend Kassandra came to Mestor after they had been attack by a group of Followers of Ares on the way back from paying their respects to Herodotos' parents. Mestor, seemingly unaware of the group's activities, nonetheless pointed the two in the direction of a cave the followers were believed to be hiding out in.[2]

Mestor's plan to help Persia invade Samos was discovered by Herodotos and Kassandra.[3] Before he could be found by the two, Mestor had Theodoros captured and held at a Pirate Coast bandit camp. Kassandra rescued Theodoros before confronting Mestor. Herodotos asked Mestor why he would betray his family and Samos, only for him to respond that Persia had promised that he would rule of Samos.[4] It was already too late as a couple of Persian ships could be seen on the horizon, the invasion had began. After Kassandra dealt with Mestor, the Persian ships were destroyed.[5]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Depending on Kassandra's choice, Mestor can be killed or spared.
